Disclaimer: I could say I own the werewolf, because he’s an OC, but he is by no means a unique character.
Notes: If you see any mistakes, please point them out to me. I would be happy to correct them.

Here he was, at the crossroads. He had come to make a deal with the devil. He was desperate; it was his last resort. He would do anything to gain some control over his own life. He knew what he was getting into: he would be selling his soul, but what was his soul to him? He had nothing left to lose. Chances were he was going to hell anyway. He could as well take advantage of that. If he was smart enough, he could maybe even find a way to get out of the deal.

He had done his research. He had carefully calculated the right time and place. He had taken the black rooster with him and the necessary instruments. He had learned the words he had to say. He just hoped his sources had been right. If this didn’t work, he might as well kill himself. He really had nothing left to live for.

He sliced the neck of the rooster with remarkable ease. He didn’t even hesitate while chanting the magic words. The whole ritual was over within minutes. Now, all he could do was wait and hope for the best.

Nothing really special happened. There were no flashes of light, nor was there the rumbling of thunder. But a man was standing there right in front of him, where there had been no man before. At first glance, the man looked like an ordinary man. He saw no goats’ hooves, no tail, no horns. The only noticeable thing were the eyes. There was something off about them, though he couldn’t pin-point what it was. Whatever the man looked like, this had to be the devil, or at least a devil. It was the devil who spoke first.

“You have summoned me.”

“Yes, I have.”

“What do you want from me?”

“I need your help.”

“You are aware of the fact that I am the devil? If you want help, you should go and ask for an angel.”

“I’ve prayed and prayed, but no help ever came for me. I need something real.”

“I can provide for that. What is it that you want?”

“I’ve heard that you can give a man the power to turn into an animal.”

“You want that?”

“Is it possible?”

“Possible? Of course it is!”

“I want to become a wolf.”

“You want to become a werewolf?”

“I see. We can arrange that. But I hope you realize it’s not for free.”

“Yeah, I know. I’ve done my homework. I believe I have to sell my soul.”

“Quite. You agree with the terms?”

“Well, okay, that’s alright then. Sign here, please.”

The devil held a wad of parchment in front of him. The terms of the agreement were stated in tiny archaic handwriting. He didn’t bother to read it, because he knew what it said. The prick of the pen in his fingertip was just a minor inconvenience. He signed his name without any hesitation. He had made his choice long before tonight.

After putting away the contract, the devil presented him with what looked like an ordinary wolf skin. He felt a little bit disappointed: he had expected something a bit more spectacular. When he looked at the fur now, it didn’t look all that intimidating or ferocious. The devil assured him that this was the genuine article, though, and proceeded to tell him how it worked.

“You wanna know how it works?”

“I have an idea, but please tell me.”

“Okay, it goes like this. If you want to change into your wolf form, you just have to put on the skin. The skin will do the rest. But - and you have to remember this - the magic of the coat only works when there is nothing but skin underneath it. You have to remove all of your clothes.

“Also, it would be wise for you to find a safe place to hide your clothes. If your clothes are somehow misplaced, you will have to remain in your wolf form. That could become rather awkward.

“The last thing to remember is that it is possible for you or others to destroy the skin, but only by fire. If that happens, you won’t get a new one, so be careful.”

“Okay, thanks, I think I can remember that. Thank you so very much.”

“I’m the devil, I don’t really care for all those pleasantries, but you’re welcome. I’ll be going now. I’m sure I’ll see you later.”

The devil was gone within the blink of an eye. He was alone now. It was almost like nothing had happened, but he had the wolf skin in his arms to prove otherwise. Since there was still enough time left before dawn, he decided to try out his new acquisition.

He had taken off his clothes and hidden them in the hollow of a tree. He made sure to remember the tree, since he didn’t want anything embarrassing to happen to him in the morning.

He felt slightly unnerved standing there without his clothes on. He did not only feel very naked, but also very vulnerable. If anything happened now, he would have no defenses.

Quickly, he put on the wolf skin. It felt cool to his skin, but soon it began to feel more natural. It began to feel like a second skin, which it actually was. He felt a tingle going up his spine. Slowly, the sensations became stronger. At a certain point, it almost felt like his whole body was set on fire. It wasn’t exactly painful, but it wasn’t a pleasant sensation by any means.

He endured it. He had to. He needed it. He had sold his soul for this. There was no way back now. He was not even sure he could make it stop now, even if he wanted to.

He felt his body stretch in some places and shorten in others. Eventually, it wasn’t possible for him to stand upright any longer. When he looked down his nose, he saw that it was no longer that of a human. He had the snout of a wolf. Looking down at his hands, he saw the paws of a wolf.

At a certain point, he concluded he was not changing any longer. He had no idea how long the transformation from man to beast had taken him. To him, it had felt like hours, but it might just as well have been minutes.

He took stock of his new situation. He felt a bit disorientated, but that was to be expected after such a transformation. It was more relevant to notice that he felt strong and powerful. He felt more energetic and more alive than he had ever felt. He felt like he could take on the whole world.

He was almost overwhelmed by the things he could perceive now, his senses had become that much stronger. He was able to see in the dark better than he ever could as a human. His ears picked up sounds that would never be heard by a human. And his nose! His nose really was a marvel. He hadn’t even known that there could be so many smells and scents.

He still had his human mind, but it had a very wolf-like feel to it. He tried to speak, but no human words came out. He could only hear a growl. No matter, he wasn’t going to need the use of his voice anyway.

He had been such a weakling, both physical and mental. Everybody had been able to walk all over him. That was going to change now. Now, he was in charge! He would go and terrorize the village! The villagers had it coming to them. They would pay for the things they had done to him! After running a few laps around an open place in the woods to work out his new motor functions, he headed towards the village.

The next morning he returned bloody, but it wasn’t his blood that covered him. He had done what he had wanted to do, and more. He felt fully satisfied.

The transformation back was easier than he had expected. Soon, he was standing there again, as a man. He found his clothes and dressed.

He still felt elated by the things he had done this night, but his clothes felt constraining and his human senses seemed so dull to him now. He felt so powerless and so ordinary. He could not imagine that he had managed to stay living as a human for so long.

If he had the choice, he would stay in his wolf form forever. He couldn’t wait for the next chance he got to run wild as a wolf. He had really enjoyed the enormous amount of freedom it had given him. Not to mention the feeling of power that went with it.

Later, there would be hell to pay. Quite literally. But that was of no concern to him now. Before that moment came, he had the time to finally live his own life. That made it all worth it. He had made a good start with it this night and he hoped there were many more nights like this to follow.

That was it. Tell me what you think!

Ooh, I opened this in G-mail and saw that it showed me the userpic that accompanied your comments. I don't believe it did that before. Or I have been blind. Anyway, I liked it. And your icon is very appropriate. ;-)

It appears that I have been half blind: the option to see the pictures was there already, but I had to click on a link/button to get it. ;-)

Anyway, it was time for me to delve a little deeper into the options of Gmail. I hadn't done so before, because I practically only use(d) it to receive mail from LJ.

Okay, I'll end this boring nonsense now.
